We pride ourselves on teaching top quality authentic Irish dancing to all ages. We believe a strong foundation is crucial to becoming a great dancer and our aim is to let each dancer in our school reach their full potential as a, champion, teacher or professional performer. Our school is affiliated with an Comisiún, the worldwide governing body for Irish dance and our teachers are fully accredited with the association. We focus on traditional Irish dance as well as modern performance styles with emphasis on fitness, stage presence and team work.
Mary began Irish dancing at the age of 4 under Mollie Farrelly in her home town of Rathkenny, Co Meath. Mary danced at the Farrelly School all her competitive years and competed at Leinsters, All Irelands and Worlds in both solos and teams.
Shane began dancing at the age of six and under the instruction of Anne Callanan he had much competitive success, most notably ranking 4th in the world. At the young age of 16 he started his professional dance career with Riverdance.
Designed for Boys and Girls aged 4yrs+ to give them a strong foundation in Irish dance and music, nurture their natural talent and teach them the fundamentals of dance – hard work, team work, discipline and absolute enjoyment.
Adults
Our Irish dance courses for Adults are the perfect chance for you to get fit, learn a complete program of dance in soft and hard shoes while having fun!
Competition
The Sweeney McAvinchey Competitive dancers travel nationally and internationally to take part in Feisanna. Our dancers have so far managed to capture multiple European titles as well as All Ireland and World Championship medals.
Profession
If you are planning on making Irish dance a career we can get you there. Already many of our dancers have gone on to become professional dancers in touring companies and also teachers setting up their own schools in various parts of the world.
